John J. Bowen ’77 and Kathleen A. Harney Student Relief Fund

The John J. Bowen ’77 and Kathleen A. Harney Student Relief Fund assists students experiencing unexpected expenses due to difficult circumstances. Limited to a specific dollar amount, in most cases, these funds will not cover the entire cost of an event or emergency. Any funds awarded should be viewed as reimbursement and will likely not be awarded prior to expenses incurred due to the emergency.

Once this online application is completed, it will be reviewed within 72 hours of receipt (fund requests are monitored during business hours only). All students requesting funding will be required to attend an in-person interview and may be asked to provide appropriate documentation. Final approval for all requests is made at the discretion of the Fund Approval Committee.

Full-time, undergraduate students enrolled at Johnson & Wales University in good academic standing are eligible to apply for emergency funding. Funds are limited and are only available on a first come, first serve basis, until the funds are exhausted. Repeated eligibility for emergency funds may be limited. Students who have graduated, are on leave and or are attending less than full time, are in the continuing education, online, graduate studies, doctoral or physician assistant programs are not eligible for funding. If it is determined that a student misuses the appropriated funds, the allocation amount will be charged to the student's account and the matter may be referred to Student Conduct.

Funds are issued to the student as a gift. At the end of the calendar year, the recipient will receive a 1099 or 1042s form listing the gift amount. Students are encouraged to consult with their tax professional to determine the impact of the gift on preparation of their taxes.

Although repayment is not required, the Fund is intended to be sustainable, supporting future generations of students. When possible, recipients are encouraged to contribute.
